Chapter Thirteen

Tracey had finally relaxed. She'd had a nice sized glass of tequila and the buzz it caused was working its magic. She laughed with Sandra and Jack as they talked about life, love, and murder. Tracey got comfortable with Jack immediately. "I feel like you're my long lost uncle or something."

"I hope that's a good thing. I don't wanna be the uncle that you always hated or nothing like that."

"It is a good thing, Jack. I'm hella comfortable around you. I done told you all my lil' business."

"You told him stuff that you ain't never even told me! You was a little fast tail in basic training, girl." Sandra shook her head and laughed.

"I wasn't fast, I had fun. There's a difference." Tracey joined in on the laughter.

The phone on Jack's desk began to ring. "This gotta be my dude," he said as he answered. "Hello... Alright come through the back, it's open."

Sandra swallowed down the last of her drink. "I wish I could've had some fun like that. I got married and had my kids so young though."

"What that mean? It ain't like you old. You can still get out and live your life, Sandy. I know you can still work it like this." Tracey got up and started popping her booty like a stripper.

Sandra stood up and acted as if she was throwing dollars at Tracey. "Don't stop, pop that, don't stop! Whatcha workin' wit!" They were so into being silly that they didn't notice that Jack and his nephew had come back in the office.

Jack started clapping. Tracey turned to give him a show. "Yeah, you see it! Oh, my God..." She froze. "Erick?"

Standing before her was none other than Erick Chambers. He was her recruiter when she joined the Army Reserves. Erick still looked the same only he was cockier and more muscular. He stood six feet tall and his skin was a creamy chocolate brown. His honey colored eyes sparkled in the light. His hair was freshly cut in a bald fade and his facial hair was lined up perfectly. He was beautiful.

"Damn... Long time no see." Erick smiled but only a fool couldn't tell that he was uncomfortable.

"A very long time..."

Jack and Sandra were confused. "Y'all know each other?" She asked.

"We know they know each other. How do y'all know each other is the question?"

Erick and Tracey just stared at each other in shock.

"Umm, excuse me. Earth to Tracey." Sandra snapped her fingers.

"Do you two mind giving us a minute to talk in private?" Erick spoke without breaking his sight on Tracey.

"Of course." Jack grabbed Sandra's hand. "Come on. We got something we need to talk about in private ourselves," he said then led her out of the room.

Erick went to the desk and sat down. Tracey sat back down in the chair she had been in. She wanted to speak first but he beat her to it. "I can't believe I'm in the same room with you right now."

"So much for you keeping your promise.
